Nick may know all of the tips and tricks on taking care of his diabetes now, but when he first found out he was as clueless as any other kid. He wasn’t even sure what diabetes was! And today he is a total pro.

So why not help speed the process up for other young diabetics by starting your very own “tricks of the trade” forum or blog!

How to start a blog
Blogs have made it easy to become a writer, an advocate, and a reporter. If you want to start a diabetes tips and tricks blog you can! You might even want to include the most recent news on diabetes research and funding. You can create a free blog on any of the following sites:,,,

How to start a forum
Starting your own forum can be a little tricky. The easiest thing to do is to is find a free forum service that is already active and then get crackin!

Make sure you cover all the topics you want. For example, if your forum is called “Tips and Tricks for Diabetes” maybe make different sections/categories like: products, injection advice, the basics, etc. You can also go on [link] and join in on their forums and start your own topic! Nick uses dlife and so do tons of other young diabetics—it’s a great resource!

Some tips from Nick to get you started
He watches what he eats and how much activity he is getting. He regularly checks his blood sugar level and he adjusts his insulin dosage accordingly. He also got a booklet from his doctor that he brings around with him that describes aspects of diabetes like hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia and ketoacidosis.

Don’t forget – share your story!
Share what you learn or how you’ve helped others through your diabetes discussion in our Stories of Change section. We can’t wait to hear all about it!
