Spread the word to end the word

This campaign was started by the Special Olympics in March 2009. The goal? To raise awareness of the impact of the thoughtless, hurtful use of the word “retard.”

Take the pledge not to use the word and join the 47,050 people across the US who have already “Spread the Word to End the Word.”

Pledge Online
Get friends and family to take the online pledge by going to the Special Olympics website and making their pledge. You can also find more info about the campaign and the use of the derogatory word.

Pledge Offline
You can even start your own pledge board at your school. Here is an example of a pledge people can write:

“I pledge and support the elimination of the derogatory use of the r-word from everyday speech and promote the acceptance and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.”

People can either write this basic pledge or personalize it. Get creative and make it as artistic and inspired as possible!
